You may be thinking, “Hypnosis sounds wonderful, but can I be hypnotized? I don’t think I can be. I’m pretty stubborn, I don’t have a good attention span and I hate thought or the feeling of losing control.”
You may be surprised to learn that you have experience hypnosis and going into trance on a daily basis. Yes, you see hypnosis is a natural state of mind and trance is something we all enter into and come out of several times a day.
Think about this:
- Have you ever found yourself completely immersed in an activity to the exclusion of everything else?
- Have you ever driven for miles only to arrive at your destination without knowing for sure how you got there?
- Have you ever been so into a TV show or movie that it was hard for anyone or anything to get your attention?
- How about working on something with intention and intensity that makes 4 hours seem like just a few minutes?
- Got lost in a book?
These are all forms of naturally occurring hypnotic trance states.
Hypnosis is naturally experienced daily.
One of the most common questions I get about hypnosis and mindfulness meditation is, “Is it Biblical?” While the word hypnosis is not found in the Bible, neither are the words Trinity or Grandfather. The concepts for all of them are found throughout though.
Unfortunately, most people’s understanding of this wonderful tool is what they have seen in movies and television as mind control to get someone to do something against their will. Or, maybe at a stage hypnotist’s show where they get people to bark like dogs, cluck like chickens, etc.
While all that may be fun and entertaining, it isn’t clinical hypnosis for positive remedial and generative change.
Hypnosis is not witchcraft, it’s not the devil’s work, nor is it manipulation or magic. It simply is a tool the Creator has given you that will allow you to tap into the power of your mind to create positive changes.
What Is Required to Be Hypnotized?
Hopefully, by now you begin to realize that you need not make a deal with the devil or expect any negative side effects whatsoever from hypnosis. Indeed if that is the case, you absorb those liabilities on a daily basis.
All that is required to be hypnotized is a willingness and a minimum of an IQ level of 60.
If you are not willing, then you will not focus. If you won’t focus, you will not concentrate on reaching this state of mind, and consequently, you won’t. If you’re the sort of person who does not have a high level of “hypnotizability,” then it merely means that different tools may be required and a longer time period may be required to put you into that special state of mind.
You can enter trance state anywhere you desire. Sounds, lights and external disturbances can themselves be incorporated into the hypnotic process called an induction. Often times incorporating these will make the hypnosis state easier to reach and more satisfying.
